Hello Quatama Families!

Welcome to another school year filled with learning and community building! I am so excited to meet new students and welcome back returning!

Dates for your calendar:
9/3: Back to School Social 4pm
9/8: 1st Day of School grades 1st-6th
9/10: 1st Day of School Kindergarten

  • Doors open at 7:30 am (students walk to class at 7:50)-pick up at 2:20 pm; daily on-time attendance is key to success!
  • Please update personal information in our front office (pick up/drop off; address changes)
  • Parent Drop Off & Pick Up are on the West side of the building (garden side)---please pull as far forward as possible, this alleviates traffic in the cul de sac and makes for speedier service

Quatama STEM TOSA & ¾ teacher Sharon Angal and Alison Heimowitz from Portland Metro STEM presented at the Oregon Zoo on how to create thriving partnerships. The work is a result of support from the Portland Metro STEM Partnership, mentorship , the Oregon Zoo, along with teacher collaboration and K-6 student work at Quatama. The interconnectedness of these three organizations provides the force and power to move ahead into the future where NGSS is standard and students are gaining 21st Century Skills. >> Quatama thought exchange 2014 (PDF)

Parent Input Regarding Student Placement

Each spring instructional staff accomplishes the important task of placing students into classes for the next school year. These placement decisions must be based upon a variety of educational and social factors, current classroom teacher input, principal input, and test data. School staff devotes considerable thought, time, and energy to this task. In the process, we work hard to achieve a “good match” between child and teacher, place each child for optimum success, and create educational effective groupings for the coming year.

We do not accept requests for specific teachers. We will return forms that list a specific teacher. As of this time we do not know teacher grade level placement for the fall. Please address the classroom learning environment as it relates to your child. We invite your input, and encourage you to use the form to provide information regarding placement of your child. Please complete this form and return it to the school office by Thursday, April 30, 2015.
