Dear Liberty Community,

I wanted to let you know about a student protest that’s taking place at our school today. Approximately 200 students have gathered in the commons to protest the federal stance on immigration and their fears and concerns about the impact that will have on themselves, their family members and friends. Please know that the protest has been peaceful and that our administrative team at Liberty, along with district administrators and our school resource officer have been present to ensure students are safe.

We have reiterated with students that they are safe in our schools, that we do not collect or maintain information about students or their family members’ immigration status, and that we will not release student information about nor will we provide access to students. For additional information, please refer to the Safe and Welcoming Schools FAQ posted on the Safety page of the District website.

Classes are still taking place as usual, and we are working with the students who are protesting to encourage them to return to class as soon as possible.

Please contact our office if you have questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Greg Timmons
