Calling all lens men/women, producers, editors and shutterbugs
Volunteering for yearbook committee can be an excellent way to dedicate some time while giving back to the school. The multitude of responsibilities ensures that there’s something for everyone, and a somewhat flexible schedule can accommodate parents that would otherwise have conflicts. As an added bonus, your work will help to capture the best memories throughout the school year.

We need your help to create and produce the 2017-18 yearbooks. No previous experience is necessary, but it would be helpful. We need a group with good organizational skills, patience, flexibility, creativity and passion if you got it!

This activity usually lasts throughout the school year, much more detail and dedication goes into this than I can list folks. Software is TBD.

This is Volunteer run program!

Please contact Tobias PTO as soon as possible if you are interested in this position(s) or would like more information.

Hearing Screenings to Begin in February/ Los exámenes de audición empezarán en febrero
Starting in February, the District will conduct hearing screenings for students in grades K, 1 and 3 in partnership with the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.

Students who do not pass the initial screening will be re-screened within approximately 30 days to take into account any transient hearing loss (i.e. from a head cold). That second screening will be conducted by an audiologist from the Northwest Regional Education Service District (NWRESD). Parents will be notified by mail if their child did not pass the second screening. An explanation of results along with resource information for possible consultation with a hearing specialist will be included in that notification.

Results for all students screened will be placed in the Health section of the students’ cumulative file. For more information or if you would like to opt your child out of the screenings, please talk to your school’s office manager or call the District’s Hearing Screening Team at 503-844-1553.

TREX Film Plastic Recycling Challenge
Thank you for the plastic bags!

Can we bring in 130 pounds this week?

Remember: bread bags, Ziploc bags, pallet wrap, bubble wrap, newspaper sleeves, and more! Maybe you have a connection at work or through friends and family.

Thank you! Don't stop now. Ask neighbors, friends and family to bring you their plastic. Please help us win the prize for a TREX bench @ our school!

This year, all HSD schools are participating in the TREX Film Plastic Recycling Challenge, which runs through Apr. 15, 2017. Students, staff, family and friends are invited to bring in plastic bags and plastic wrap to a designated bin at each school. The winning schools, which will be announced on Earth Day, Apr. 22, will receive a TREX bench.

Safe and Welcoming Schools
In light of the recent national conversation around immigration, we wanted to assure our community that Hillsboro schools are a safe place for students. We recognize the diversity and worth of all students, individuals and groups, and are committed to both educating and providing a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of their immigration status, race, color, religion or any other basis. In fact, HSD does not collect or track any information regarding a student's or their family members’ immigration or citizenship status.

We have been working with local law enforcement partners to develop some talking points and assurances around students’ safety while in our schools, and around the confidentiality of their personal information. A reminder for Tobias student and parent safety
During pick-up and drop-off times, we need parents to stay behind the yellow line in the bus area. Buses are having a hard time making the turn because parents are encroaching over the line which makes the bus drivers unable to safely maneuver.

Background checks
Background checks- Background checks are required to volunteer (including classroom help, PTO and field trips) and expire every two years. Prior to volunteering, we ask that you complete the volunteer application process. Link- http://www.hsd.k12.or.us/Community/Volunteering/VolunteerDonate.aspx
