The Retro Dance is currently scheduled for Friday, March 5th from 6:00-8:30 pm. This is a family event that is a lot of fun for everyone. 6th Grade Moving Up Breakfast: Plans are starting to be made for the 6th grade moving up breakfast. If you are a parent of a sixth grader and want to be involved in this memorable event, please let your child's teacher know.

Science-O-Rama is coming once again to Tobias. The annual Science Fair will be Tuesday, March 2nd from 6:30-7:30. All Tobias students are invited to participate in this sixth annual event. Thank you to Synopsis for making this event possible. Synopsis also donates displays boards that can be picked up in room 23. Please let your classroom teacher know by Friday, Feb. 19th if your student is going to participate. Top scorers in each grade level will go on to the district fair held April 29th at Liberty High School. Judges are needed for the Tobias fair - no previous science background required.

Albertson's Club Card: For the past several years, Albertson's has donated 4% of total sale purchases to Tobias for the club cards that were signed up with this program. Retro Dance: The Beatles? Beach Boys? Bee Gees? Billy Idol? Bon Jovi? Whatever oldies are your favorite, you'll find them all at the Tobias Retro Dance on Friday, March 5th from 6:00-8:00 pm. Wear your poodle skirt and saddle shoes or your favorite "Retro" attire and get entered into a prize drawing. Admission is $5 per family. A responsible adult must accompany students for the entire event. Refreshments will be on sale at the snack bar.

Retro Dance Parent Committee: We need parents to help with concessions, door, music, decorations, and clean-up as well as 8 parents to chaperone the event. Unfortunately, if we don't have this minimum number of parent volunteers by Friday, February 19th, the event will have to be cancelled. You can see your child's outstanding balance and also set up regular payments to their lunch account. Also, if your economic situation changes at any time during the year, you can apply for free and reduced meals.

Family Movie Night - This Friday, December 11th is the FREE family movie night at Tobias. The Jim Carrey version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" will be shown in the gym. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Beverages and candy will be available to purchase and there will be FREE ice cream sundaes. You are welcome to bring in your own food as well. Wear your pajamas, bring blankets or pillows and enjoy the show with your family, friends, and neighbors. Santa will be there for pictures so be sure to bring your camera.

Can Food Drive - The Tobias classes are in a friendly competition to bring in the most canned food. The winning class will receive a party with a movie and popcorn. The competition is under way now and runs through Tuesday, December 15th. Thanks to our 6th grade students for being in charge of collecting, organizing, and counting the food.

Winter Break: There are only three weeks of school before the Winter Break, which will be from December 21, 2009 to January 1, 2010.

Thanksgiving Food Baskets: A big thank you to all the families that donated food for the Thanksgiving Food Baskets. Thanks to the TAG kids, Mrs. Liederman, and Gianna Verdugo for collecting the food and putting the baskets together.

Tobias Holiday Tree: Tobias will once again be collecting presents for Tobias kids for the holidays. Watch for the holiday tree in front of the office and if you are able to, take home a tag to shop for a child this holiday season.

Holiday Bazaar - Do you have a long list of holiday shopping that needs to be done? Do you dread the idea of mall parking and crowds? Whether you have a long list or those one or two special people, the Tobias Holiday Bazaar is the perfect place to go. The Bazaar will be on Saturday, November 21st from 9-4pm.

There will be over 50 vendors with a wide range of items sure to take care of everyone on your list. There will be handbags, jewelry, toys, books, and so much more. There will be craft activities for the kids. Liberty Grad Night Students will be on hand to provide lunch and be sure to stop by the Insomnia Coffee stand for a delicious coffee drink.

November 2009 Newsletter

Vision Screening - Vision screening will happen on Tuesday, November 3rd, for all Tobias kindergartners through 3rd grade. Thank you to the Hillsboro School District for providing this valuable service and a BIG thank you to all the parents who have offered to volunteer at this event.

Harvest Carnival - The Annual Tobias Harvest Carnival is this Friday, November 6th. This family fun event is from 6:00pm - 8:30pm at the school. There will be fun games, bingo, a cake walk, pizza, italian ice, terrific prizes, and so much more. Ticket order forms were sent home last week, so be sure to send them back early to get a deal on early bird ticket orders. Tickets purchsed on or before Thursday the 5th are 5 for $1. Spirit Assembly and Costume Parade - The October Spirit Assembly will be held on Friday the 30th at 8:30 am. This is a special morning assembly to allow time for the annual Costume Parade that takes place at 1:15 pm. Parents, grandparents, and guardians of Tobias students are encouraged to come to both of these events. Please refer to the golden information sheet that was sent home regarding acceptable costume attire.

Vision Screening - The Hillsboro School District will be providing free vision screening to all Tobias students in grades kinder through 3rd. This will take place on Tuesday, November 3rd from 8am-12pm. Volunteers are needed.

• No School: This week is a short school week. Students only attend Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are reserved for parent-teacher conferences and are non-school days.
    
• Tiger Trek: The Tiger Trek was a huge success. We had great weather, music, school spirit, and lots of crazy hair. Thanks to all the fabulous volunteers that made the day fun for all. Due to the recent "no school days", outdoor school, and parent teacher conferences, PTO will accept pledge money through Monday, October 19th.
