OAKS testing

“Oregon’s content standards define what all students should know and be able to do. Statewide assessments, or tests, administered at different grades are designed to show a student’s progress toward meeting those standards. “ (Oregon Department of Education)

State testing in Reading and Math for 3rd-6th graders is beginning and will continue through May.  5th graders are taking the state Science assessment as well.  Your child’s teacher will notify you a few days before the testing dates in each subject.

What can you do to help your child do their best on this important test?

Make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before the test.

Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast.

Talk to your child about the importance of the test.

Tell your child that you know they have been working very hard in school and that this is a chance to demonstrate all they have learned.

When your child completes the test, ask them about their scores.  As the tests are taken on the computer, the students receive their scores right away when they finish the test.

Hillsboro Online Academy is a new learning option for students 7th through 12th grades and is the newest school in the Hillsboro School District!  The Academy features a rigorous yet flexible menu of online learning programs, designed to meet the varied needs of students and their families.  An individual learning plan is central to the Academy’s mission. Also core is connecting students to careers and community.. All online courses are supported by Hillsboro teachers. For more information see:  www.hillonlineacademy.org

Learning happens each day, in every class. Missed instruction is difficult to ‘make-up’ at home. Being consistently late to school or pulling students out of class for non-emergency medical appointments robs them of valuable learning experiences and disrupts the learning environment for all students. Please do what you can to ensure your child’s success at school by supporting their on-time attendance each day.
