Welcome to the Little Spartan Preschool at Hilhi. The Preschool is located in the Creative Arts (CA) building on the high school campus. At the Little Spartan Preschool we believe that all children are capable of learning and do so through play. We plan developmentally appropriate curriculum around the interests, abilities, and family culture of the children enrolled in the preschool program.
Our program is a lab preschool program directed and led by a certified teacher with the assistance of high school students. The students who work with the children are sophomore, junior and senior students enrolled in the Hillsboro High School Child Service I & II courses. These students take an introductory course prior to enrolling in this class. They then spend a month prior to the opening of the preschool learning about curriculum development, reviewing developmental milestones, planning learning activities and setting up the preschool.
Throughout the school year the high school students learn and practice positive guidance techniques, observe and record developmental growth of the children, learn proper food handling procedures, basic first aid, and how theory plays out in the classroom setting. The students are responsible for planning the majority of the activities for the children. They are enrolled in this course to learn more about children and to gain hands-on experience. Ms. Jett the preschool teacher/high school teacher is with the preschool class at all times.
