Winter is here and it is dark outside.  Drivers, please be mindful of students walking/biking to school and parents please consider reflective clothing/backpacks.

If you do not have access to technology/internet, please contact the office and we will gladly provide you with hard copies of school news. The PTA will continue to use Big Tent for PTA communications. The Jackson Facebook page is no longer being used at this time.

No School Thursday January 29th and Friday the 30th.

Attendance Call Change

Effective Feb 2nd, in an effort to increase safety of our students, the attendance calls will be going out to parents beginning at 9:15 am.  What does this mean for parents?  If you call the attendance line after 8:45 am, we will be updating the absence but you may still get an attendance call.  We appreciate your patience during this transition.  If students arrive to school after 8:00 am, they need to check in at the front office and receive a pass to class.

Updated Hiring Process for Jackson’s New Principal

Last September we went through the hiring process for a new principal for Jackson. At the end of the process the decision was made to appoint an interim principal for the 2014-15 school year and conduct a new hiring process in the spring of 2015. We are ready to begin the hiring process and I want to share information with you about the process.

Artist in Residency

We are so excited to welcome singer-songwriter, Mo Phillips to Jackson!  We are kicking off the year with our Right Brain Artist in Residency, featuring this high-energy artist who believes in empowering students through musical expression and unlocking the songwriter in all of us!

Mo explains that his goal as a teaching artist is "to inspire students to explore the limitless possibilities of creative writing and expression through songwriting."  Each class will have five sessions with Mo,  where he will teach songwriting techniques and connect to curriculum topics, as well as explore the idea of what it means to be a part of the Jackson community.

  • We are proud to have two student authors at Jackson. Helena Macalino, a 2nd grader, published her first book “The Reflection” in July. Damien Macalino, a fourth grader, published “What if an Alligator Ate an Avalanche” a little over a year ago and is now working on a graphic novel about a cow with super powers. Graphic novels are similar to comic books because they use sequential art to tell a story​. Helena and Damien’s books are available in our school library for students to check out.

  • Thank you to Mrs. Hall, in partnership with Ed Dennis, for their leadership in procuring donation funds from Rockwell Collins for our Project Lead the Way science program.  


Please visit the HSD website, click on parents, click on resources, and then click on immunizations to view Washington County information about Flu and Norovirus.  If you have any new information regarding immunizations, please share that with the front office.

Daily Transportation Changes

If you need to make changes to your student’s normal going home plan, please send a signed and dated note with your student or call the office  no later than 30 minutes before the end of school.

To  sign up to volunteer, please visit and go to Community  and then Volunteering.  *If you are in the school for any reason, please remember to sign in and wear a badge.  We appreciate all you do for our school but safety is always a priority.  When signing in: Volunteers need to sign in on the white log as well as the computer and sign out on both too. Visitors need to sign in and out on the white log.  During any school evacuation drill or a real evacuation, please make sure to check in with the school secretary.
