Reminders

Safety First
Fall is here and it is dark outside.  Drivers, please be mindful of students walking/biking to school and parents please consider reflective clothing/backpacks.

Stay Up To Date

If you do not have access to technology/internet, please contact the office and we will gladly provide you with hard copies of school news. The PTA will continue to use Big Tent for PTA communications. The Jackson Facebook page is no longer being used at this time.

Lost and Found
Please check the lost and found weekly for your student’s belongings.  Over winter break, what is still in the lost and found will be donated.

Principal's Message

Students will bring their report cards home on November 20. Conferences will allow sharing student work samples and reviewing your student’s progress. Senate Bill 290 requires that all districts report student progress on the Common Core State Standards. These Standards-Based report cards measure how students are learning grade level standards. To help parents understand the changes, the District has provided two short videos to explain how the standards-based report card measures student learning throughout the year.

The first video explains how the report card looks this year - Click here to watch it.

The second video talks about assessments - Click here to watch it.

We look forward to seeing you at our conferences. Please ensure you have made an appointment with your student's teacher. Conference dates are Friday Nov. 21st and Monday Nov. 24th.

With warm regards,

Kathi Robinson and Lauri Lewis

Artist in Residency

We are so excited to welcome singer-songwriter, Mo Phillips to Jackson!  We are kicking off the year with our Right Brain Artist in Residency, featuring this high-energy artist who believes in empowering students through musical expression and unlocking the songwriter in all of us!

Mo explains that his goal as a teaching artist is "to inspire students to explore the limitless possibilities of creative writing and expression through songwriting."  Each class will have five sessions with Mo,  where he will teach songwriting techniques and connect to curriculum topics, as well as explore the idea of what it means to be a part of the Jackson community.

You can learn more about this engaging artist by checking out his website http://www.mophillips.com

Conferences

Conferences are set for Friday, November 21st from 4-8pm and Monday, November 24th from 7:30am-7:30pm.  Please contact your student’s teacher to set up a conference time.

Congrats!

  • We are proud to have two student authors at Jackson. Helena Macalino, a 2nd grader, published her first book “The Reflection” in July. Damien Macalino, a fourth grader, published “What if an Alligator Ate an Avalanche” a little over a year ago and is now working on a graphic novel about a cow with super powers. Graphic novels are similar to comic books because they use sequential art to tell a story‚Äč. Helena and Damien’s books are available in our school library for students to check out.

  • Congratulations to Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Cutburth, Mrs. Rice, and Ms. Lam for receiving I Pad tablets thru DonorsChoose.org

  • Thank you to Mrs. Hall, in partnership with Ed Dennis, for their leadership in procuring donation funds from Rockwell Collins for our Project Lead the Way science program.
