Principal's Message

Dear Jackson Families,

There are many ways to be "in the know" about Jackson activities - click HERE to learn more.

Being in schools in China was fascinating, interesting, and very educational. I talked about the trip  at the November coffee chat. This trip was paid for by Hanban, who also sponsors our Chinese / Confucius classroom. I went with three other district administrators and a larger group of other administrators from all over the United States.

If you want to have a fun conversation with your child, ask him or her about Wall Ball. I played with each grade last week and learned the definition of a rainbow, a ghostie, holdsies, a phoenix, a pocket, and more!  Being in classrooms, I am always excited to see their learning and their engagement, but last week I also saw enthusiasm for a game with largely made up rules during which they navigated, self-umpired, and collaborated. They are such wonderful children; thank you for sharing them with us!!

At the November coffee chat, we discussed the following (in addition to the trip to China):

1. To honor Native American History month, we will have our own students presenting a drumming and dance performance at the December 4 assembly.

2. The March auction is still open for paddle bid ideas, although right now it is looking like safety is the top priority.

3. HSD is hosting Multiple Perspectives: An Interracial Dialogue, Dec. 3 5:30 - 7:30 @ Hillsboro Library. Email to RSVP.

4. We had a productive discussion about what to do about fire alarms at the end of the day and the parking lot during drop off times. I will be working to improve practices for both.

It is a pleasure to serve the students, teachers, and community of Jackson!

Volunteering & Visiting

We couldn't do great work without our volunteers at Jackson!  All volunteers are REQUIRED to complete a district background check, sign in, and work with teachers to determine the best time and role for your time. NO EXCEPTIONS. To  sign up to volunteer, please visit and go to Community  and then Volunteering

*If you are in the school for any reason, please remember to sign in and wear a badge.  We appreciate all you do for our school but safety is always a priority.  When signing in: Volunteers need to sign in on the white log as well as the computer and sign out on both too. Visitors need to sign in and out on the white log.  During any school evacuation drill or a real evacuation, please make sure to check in with the school secretary. Between 8 - 2:30, entrance into the classrooms is through the office and workroom only.
