Jackson Kinder Round-Up:  4-21-15, 6:30-7:30 pm
Do you have a student eligible  for kindergarten?  We invite children who will be five years old by September 1, 2015, to enroll for the 2015-16 school year.  Jackson is proud to announce that kindergarten will be full day. Our incoming kindergarten registration process opens March 2nd for the 2015-16 school year. Registration packets can be picked up at our Jackson Elementary School office.  Another resource for registration information is under the parent’s tab of the HSD website:   www.hsd.k12.or.us.  Please help us spread the word by passing along this information to any families that may need it. All parents and families of incoming kindergarten students are  invited to join Jackson’s Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday, April 21,2015 from 6:30-7:30 pm.  We look forward to meeting the graduating class of 2028.

Attendance Call Change

Effective Feb 2nd, in an effort to increase safety of our students, the attendance calls will be going out to parents beginning at 9:15 am.  What does this mean for parents?  If you call the attendance line after 8:45 am, we will be updating the absence but you may still get an attendance call.  We appreciate your patience during this transition.  If students arrive to school after 8:00 am, they need to check in at the front office and receive a pass to class.

Updated Hiring Process for Jackson’s New Principal

Last September we went through the hiring process for a new principal for Jackson. At the end of the process the decision was made to appoint an interim principal for the 2014-15 school year and conduct a new hiring process in the spring of 2015. We are ready to begin the hiring process and I want to share information with you about the process.

When Arts Integration Hits Home

Third graders Sydney and Payton of Mrs. Hall’s class really took Mo’s residency to heart.  After experiencing song-writing as a class, they decided to give it a try on their own at home.  Sydney already played guitar, but she had never written a song before.  Together the girls “started throwing words around and tried making slant rhymes, like with Mo.”  Payton explained that it was Mo teaching them about slant rhymes (words that don’t exactly rhyme but are very close in sound) that helped them come up with more lyrics and “make the song bigger and bolder.”

Sydney was inspired by Mo’s guitar playing as well.  She stated that she “started playing around with chords and beating on the guitar to make an echo with the strings.”

The girls also thought about the tone or mood of the song, which is an element of song-writing that Mo discussed in their sessions.  Their song called “Ghost” has a calm, peaceful tone.

Sydney and Payton performed the song for their class.
