Dear Jackson Families
,

We are pleased to announce that a new principal for Jackson Elementary School has been selected: Sarah Crane, currently Principal of Ione Community School (a charter school) in Ione, Oregon.

Ms. Crane began her educational career in 2002 as a Special Education teacher for students in grades 5-12 in Lee County, Alabama.  In 2004, she moved to Amarillo, Texas, where she taught both general and special education students at the elementary level.  She then spent a year as a Behavior Specialist before moving to Oregon in 2009 to become the Special Education Coordinator for InterMountain ESD.  There, she assisted twelve school districts with special education services, behavior support, state reporting and paperwork, programs, and teacher training.  Ms. Crane was promoted to Special Education Director for IMESD in 2012, and in 2013 she moved into her principal position in Ione.  She is currently finishing up her Doctorate of Educational Leadership through Lewis & Clark College.

Ms. Crane is a former Teacher of the Year (Amarillo, TX, 2007-08), and comes to Hillsboro highly recommended.  She is extremely excited to be your new principal as of July 1, and we are anxious for you to meet her!

It has been our pleasure to serve as co-principals at Jackson, and we look forward to finishing out the school year with you.  This is an amazing school with a great staff, outstanding students, and involved families.

Thank you very much for your support!

Sincerely,

Kathi Robinson and Lauri Lewis

Co-Interim Principals

Jackson's Open House:  May 14th from 6-8 pm

The Open House is a time to celebrate your child's growth over the course of the school year. You will have the opportunity to visit the classroom, chat with the teacher, and view work samples with your child. Since it is an Open House, you may attend any time between 6- 8 pm. Please know, this is not a time to conference with your child's teacher. Families will be in and out of the classroom, and you will need to schedule an appointment at a different time, if you have further questions or concerns. We hope to see you there!

Proud to be HSD Festival:  Saturday, May 30th from 8 am-4 pm

The first-annual Proud to be HSD Festival is on Saturday, May 30, from 8 am-4 pm in downtown Hillsboro in front of the Civic Center.  The event will showcase the breadth and depth of student talent and achievement in Hillsboro School District, with booths and activity areas spanning science, robotics, art, College and Career Pathways, a film festival, musical and dance performances, athletic competitions, mascot showdown, and much more!  Your third grade teachers will be showcasing Jackson’s STEAM accomplishments, especially highlighting the success of our Project Lead the Way science curriculum.  We will be at the Glencoe Feeder booth from 2-4 p.m.  Our third graders have been asked to join Mo Phillips during a showcase of Right Brain Residencies.  Mo will be performing some of his songs and our third graders will be singing their original songs written during the residency.   The performance starts at 3:30 pm.  We hope you can make it to this fun event and that students are excited and ready to rock out with Mo!

IMPORTANT MEAL ACCOUNT INFORMATION! After Friday, May 22rd, your child will need to have money in their meal account in order to purchase anything from the cafeteria. Lunch is $2.50, breakfast is $1.50 and milk is $0.50. Please make sure your child has enough money in their account.  Accounts with a negative balance must be paid before the last day of school. You may pay in the cafeteria at any time, by cash, check or online at www.myschoolbucks.com. Salad bar, milk and a cheese stick will be given to students who are unable to purchase a meal.

Attendance Call Change

Effective Feb 2nd, in an effort to increase safety of our students, the attendance calls will be going out to parents beginning at 9:15 am.  What does this mean for parents?  If you call the attendance line after 8:45 am, we will be updating the absence but you may still get an attendance call.  We appreciate your patience during this transition.  If students arrive to school after 8:00 am, they need to check in at the front office and receive a pass to class.
