Sam and his dad

And the winner is...

For a couple of weeks in October, LSES PTO had a Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin contest. The pumpkin was put in the library and students were encouraged to guess its weight. Van Dyke Farms in Cornelius grew this huge pumpkin to a whopping 93.8 pounds! The winning guess was from Sam in Mrs. Mergen's 6th grade class. He guessed 94 pounds. Congratulations Sam!

Lincoln Street teacher nominated for Teacher of the Year

Una Maher has been nominated for 2016 Oregon Teacher of the Year, presented by the Oregon Department of Education.  Una is a kindergarten teacher at Lincoln Street. Candidates for the Oregon Teacher of the Year are exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled public school educators.

A student, parent, or fellow educator has nominated Una this year. We will find out in October if she has been selected as teacher of the year.
Every year, each of the 50 states names a teacher of the year. The Oregon Teacher of the Year Program started in 1955 when elementary school teacher Margaret (Perry) Teufel of Monmouth Elementary School won the honor.
Candidates for the Oregon Teacher of the Year  have gained the respect and admiration of students, parents, and fellow educators, play an active role in the community, and are distinguished as a leader in the profession. Their efforts in the classroom inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn.
