November 10, 2016

Dear North Plains Families,

The first quarter is over and we are well into No School November!  Next week is our only full week of school this month with conferences this week and Thanksgiving coming up soon.  Then we have four full weeks until Winter Break, a good chunk of time to get in some solid learning!

Jackson Elementary School is hosting a feedback session for ESSA, The Every Student Succeeds Act at 6:00 PM on Dec. 6.  Come learn about this important topic.  See the complete flier with the following link.   ESSA Community Forums Flier 11-2016.pdf

Nov. 8 we had an amazing Veteran's Day assembly honoring local veterans including Bob Jackson and Elmer Mays.  Thank you to our PTO, the North Plains Historical Society, and Joyce Reynolds for all of their support in putting this together.  It was a very special day for our students and for the veterans who were able to attend!

Here is what is coming up at North Plains and in the community

Nov. 15 - 7 - 8 PM American Red Cross Emergency Preparedness at the NP Public Library

Nov. 24-25:  No school for the Thanksgiving Holiday

Nov. 28 - Dec. 7:  Canned Food Drive

Dec. 2 - 24:  Holiday Craft Fair at the NP Public Library

Dec. 9 6:30 - 7:45 PM  Holiday Bell Choir Concert at Jessie Mays.  Free!

Dec. 13: Tartar Patrol Assembly for primary grades: 9:30 AM in the gym

Dec. 14 - 15: Holiday Gift Shop

Dec. 16: Katie Frazier shares about the Village of Hope in Uganda and how she is raising money to help support the village. 1:00 PM            (grades 3 - 6)

As you know, we are really focused on attendance this year!  Our district motto is "9 or less is best!" meaning students need to strive to be absent one day or less per month.  In our 2nd month of the competition, Ms. Ravins' 4th grade class took 1st place with an average attendance of 98.6%  Way to go!  Students were rewarded with a popcorn party!

If you are interested in being a part of our North Plains Elementary Family, please fill out a volunteer application online on the district website.  We would love to have you help out in the cafeteria, in classrooms, on the playground, or just helping teachers with bulletin boards and laminating!

Questions, concerns, comments?  Send me an email, I appreciate hearing from you!
