Children in Kindergarten have several opportunities to begin consistent homework practices:
*Reading Logs: Students in Kindergarten are encouraged to read or be read to each night. Parents help keep a “log” of the books that kids have read and any comments that they would like to share about their child’s reading
*Monthly Homework calendars: At the beginning of each month, the students receive a new monthly homework calendar filled with fun, variety activities. Parents initial in the boxes as the child completes each one. The minimum goal is three activities per week.
*Weekly writing: As part of the monthly homework calendar, children are encouraged to draw and write a “story” (with help) each week. The students bring them to school and receive a written response about their story.
*SLAM math booklets: Kindergarten children have an opportunity to work through as many as 30 individual, self paced math booklets throughout the year. The math books begin with basic number recognition/writing practice and progressively get into higher math.
