Updates:

·         February – June 2011: Reedville staff received further professional development. Staff provided input and feedback. The committee reviewed extensive research and attending the Dual Language (CABE) California Association of Bilingual Education Conference in June 2011. In May 2011, staff was informed that due to a variety of factors that the committee would continue their work, but a dual language program option would not be an option for Reedville students in 2011-2012.

·         September 2011: The committee unanimously voted to move forward to develop a feasibility plan for a Kindergarten and/or Kindergarten/First Grade program start for September 2012.

·         November 2011: The committee completed two possible implementation plans for a Kindergarten and First Grade start. The committee developed a communication/recruitment plan. Principal Baez submitted the committee recommendations to the Hillsboro School District Office of School Performance.

Dual Language Committee

In January 2011, staff and parents were presented information regarding the program elements and benefits to a Dual Language educational program. Staff, parent and community input was gathered and committee members consisting of Reedville staff and parents were recruited. 

In February 2011, a committee of staff and parents began to explore the essential elements of a quality Dual Language program option as it applies to Reedville School for future Reedville students.

The committee was responsible for answering and developing the following questions/items:

§  Does Reedville have the necessary conditions to support a Dual Language program option?

§  What program options would fit best?

§  Can we provide a different program for current K-3 students?

§  Plan for Implementation and communication

We are exploring Dual Language as a program option for students attending Reedville

. A committee of staff and parents will explore the essential elements of a quality Dual Language program as it applies to Reedville School for future Reedville students. The earliest possible start would be incoming Kindergarten 2011. The program would expand to the next grade level each following year.
